Community Foundation

The Farmers & Merchants Community Foundation is a 501(c)3 which provides financial opportunities to qualifying educational institutions in Des Moines County, Iowa. The Community Foundation’s largest giving activity, Project: Crayon, was created by F&M Bank & Trust in 2008. It was a way of helping area elementary schools gain the supplies they needed to teach. F&M Bank & Trust acted as a conduit between area individuals, organizations, churches and business to give teachers the supplies needed for their classrooms. As Project: Crayon grew, F&M Bank & Trust applied to form a not-for-profit organization so grants and participations with area businesses could continue to increase.

The goal and mission of the Farmers & Merchants Community Foundation is to supply area teachers with the necessary tools for the classroom. As well as providing financial support to school groups to help build healthier and more well-rounded students which in turn helps to secure a better future work force for our area.

In 2010, F&M Bank & Trust was given the Community Impact Award by the Burlington/West Burlington Area Chamber of Commerce for Project: Crayon.
